Case Study/
Curraghs Wildlife Park

Since 2003, we have been involved with the design and manufacture of a whole range of signs and interpretation for the Curraghs Wildlife Park on the Isle of Man. The Park is divided into several geographical zones, each of which required a large display to interpret its habitat and the animals found there. Since many of the enclosures in the Park are built from pressure-treated timber poles, we felt it would be good to carry on this style as supports for the interpretation.

This produced very robust structures which blended well with the surroundings and were strong enough to withstand attention from some of the animals which roam freely in the enclosures. On each of these installations were panels and simple interactive elements, to help convey the special importance of these areas and the animals found there.

Canopy Trail Panels

More recently, we have produced entrance signs for each of the zones along with a series of panels for a newly developed “Life on Islands” enclosure which ties together the special biodiversity of islands around the world with the Isle of Man itself.

The park also has several nature trails, including a boardwalk through the boggy ground of the surrounding willow carr, a butterfly trail and a canopy trail on a raised walkway through the trees. We produced series of panels for each of these, as well framed species labels for all of the park’s animals and interpretation for the children’s farm area.
